Pardoning Bad Behavior in order to “Combat Racism”
Excerpt 9 from Celebrating Whiteness “Chapter 4 Part I: “Diversity is Our Strength””
Other school districts have resorted to even more shameful efforts at lowering standards in the name of diversity. In 2020, the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) overhauled its grading system in an effort to “combat racism”. Given that Non-Whites (especially Blacks) are disproportionately more likely than Whites to receive D or F grades, the school decided to, among other things, not count turning in work on time and classroom behavior when calculating a student’s academic grade. Commenting on the changes, SDUSD Vice President Richard Barrera stated that “This is part of our honest reckoning as a school district. If we’re actually going to be an anti-racist school district, we have to confront practices like this that have gone on for years and years.” The school board said it would also investigate racial disparities in cheating as another academic standard that they can reform.[1] It’s interesting how “anti-racists” seek to “combat racism” by relying on such negative stereotypes of Non-Whites for guidance. It makes you wonder just how anti-racist these “anti-racists” really are.
Other reforms driven by this “anti-racist” mindset have sadly defaulted to turning a blind eye to Black students when they engage in dishonorable behavior. In 2022, for instance, the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) made it more difficult to expel a cadet for violating the honor code. Why? Because Black cadets were disproportionately more likely to be expelled than Non-Black cadets. Though Black cadets make up 6% of the student body, they represent 43% of those expelled for honor code violations. In a Washington Post article discussing this story, entitled “VMI will change honor system that expels Black cadets at disproportionate rates”, the blame for this disparity is placed on institutional racism—that’s it. No other cause is mentioned or alluded to; not once in the whole article is it mentioned that the root of the disparity might be due (even partially) to Black misbehavior rather than anti-Black racism.[2] Think about this for a moment. This is the military we’re talking about here; honor and discipline are among the highest virtues in the military and are not something we can afford to be lax with. Tolerating incompetence and immorality is bad enough in any industry, but it is appallingly irresponsible in the military. By diminishing our emphasis on robust standards of proficiency and decency, we are needlessly making our military less capable and more corruptible. And to what end? The questionable end of retaining mediocre cadets, whose honor is clearly lacking, just because they are Black? What a worthless and petty standard to be subordinating such essential and grand standards of military excellence to. Anyone with a discerning conscience should see this “diversification” of our military for the unacceptable danger that it is, and we should not tolerate it. If diversity entails making our military less strong and less moral, then diversity is not our greatest strength, but a disgraceful weakness.
Unfortunately, the dishonorable aspirations of “anti-racists” do not end there. Even more concerning is that “anti-racists” are pushing for deliberately racist disparities in treatment between racial groups with regard to criminal sentencing. As of 2023, California seems ready to pass a bill, recommended by Governor Gavin Newsom’s Reparations Task Force, which would require California’s criminal courts to consider the “disparate impact on historically disenfranchised and system-impacted populations” when issuing a sentence. That means that two men with similar criminal histories, each convicted of the same crime, would see different sentencing outcomes dependent on the color of their skin, with a White criminal being given a standard sentence, while a Black criminal is given a more lenient sentence to compensate for the number of Black people in prison.[3] This is sheer madness. Our society is increasingly subordinating the all-important goals of criminal justice for the foolhardy demands of social justice. Prison sentences are no longer based upon core criminal justice principles like deterrence against wrongdoing, confinement of dangerous wrongdoers, retribution against wrongdoers, or rehabilitation of wrongdoers into law-abiding citizens, but are increasingly based upon ulterior racist motives against White people and in favor of Non-White people (or, particularly, the Non-White race that just so happens to commit the most crime). This is not to mention the fact that such a perverse system of justice would be putting Black criminals back on the streets in Black communities, making Black communities more dangerous and putting innocent law-abiding Black people in harm’s way in order to help out the Black people who are a drain on and a danger to their own communities. We are living in Clown World, where short-sighted “anti-racist” objectives make everything worse for everybody except the most incompetent, dishonorable, and criminal elements of society, because to do otherwise is somehow “racist”. What a world.
These unreasonable priorities go well beyond “Diversity is our strength”, but effectively adhere to an even more extreme principle, which can be summed up in the following mantra: “Diversity über alles”. These people don’t care about “strength” (whatever they mean by it) nor do they see Diversity as “our greatest” tool to enhancing our strength; rather, they see Diversity as the end in itself and are willing to sacrifice any strength to reach this nebulous end. To them, Diversity’s extrinsic benefits (or lack thereof) are not their real concern; instead, Diversity is viewed as an intrinsic good valued for its own sake, regardless of how much it undermines countless other goods of greater value and more fundamental significance. To these people, Diversity (or their narrow perception of Diversity) is prized above all else—above strength, above merit, above function, above reason, above honor, above decency—so much so that all other goals, no matter how important, must all be subordinated to the master goal of Diversity. If Diversity conflicts with something, then that other thing must give way for the sake of Diversity. As future examples in this chapter will more glaringly demonstrate, this absurd over-prioritization of “Diversity über alles” does, indeed, seem to be the unspoken mantra driving much of these Diversity initiatives.

Thank you for your time, and Happy Columbus Day!
